Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire makes roads safer for children

Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire organised a road safety campaign, in partnership with the Office of Road Safety (OSER), marked by a donation ceremony at the Collège Saint Jean Bosco in Treichville on 30 October 2013.

This campaign was launched following an alarming number of road accident victims in Côte d’Ivoire, especially children. According to the OSER, between 2000 and 2012, 6,000 accidents occurred each year in Côte d’Ivoire. Every year, 11,000 people are injured and there are 600 fatalities, 40% of them are pedestrians, and 50% of the fatalities are children.

For this reason, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Côte d’Ivoire, Franck Konan-Yahaut, offered the College 500 books, pens and learning kits for the learning of basic road safety skills, and installed a zebra crossing near to the College.

In addition, Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire and the OSER created a road safety club led by pupils of the Collège Saint Jean Bosco. This club will be used to raise awareness among pupils. Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire also sent the school road safety club a number of teaching boards showing the basics of road safety as well as educational material including pens and books.

Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire thus confirms its ambition in terms of citizenship and its leadership in the field of road safety. This campaign derives from the traditional Safety Day organised each year by Vivo Energy to encourage compliance with the strict rules safety and the environmental rules. Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire provided protective driving training for several coach drivers responsible for the transportation of pupils in the city of Abidjan, including those of Collège Saint Jean Bosco. Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire also officially sent the OSER a large number of safety kits comprising fluorescent jackets and STOP panels to regulate traffic around academic establishments. This action has positively affected the life of over 5,000 people.
