Vivo Energy partners with Terre des Jeunes

In Cote d’Ivoire, Vivo Energy recently joined up with long-time partner, Terre des jeunes, with the objective to get young Ivorians to start thinking and caring about the environment.

Terre des jeunes is an NGO focused on both education and environmental awareness, and aims to foster a love for the environment among school children, “so that future generations can inherit a beautiful planet”. It is affiliated with the country’s environmental ministry, and with national forestry body, SODEFOR.

As part of a new Terre des jeunes/Vivo Energy programme, teachers will also be involved in the learning process so that they themselves can become ambassadors for the environment and spread the care-for-the-environment messages at their schools.

The programme encompasses environmental-themed drawing competitions, the setting up of “green spaces” and gardens at some of the country’s schools, and seminars on topics relating to the importance of protecting the environment.

The programme was launched in December 2012 at Institut Vivo Energy, a company-sponsored education centre set up in Yamoussoukro in 2002 (and which aims to integrate HIV/Aids prevention education with recreational programmes).

In attendance were the ministry of environment, and the ministry of education, members of the press and Franck Konan-Yahaut, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire, as well teachers and learners representing the various schools.

Following a special ceremony which included presentations from the various stakeholders, the programme was officially unveiled. Training of the school children and their teachers relating to the planting of trees has been ongoing since the beginning of the year.

“Vivo Energy Cote d’Ivoire is proud to accompany Terre des jeunes every step of the way in their tireless efforts to spread environmental awareness.  Our overall aim is to encourage learners to become champions of energy conservation among their peers and their communities.”
