Nature Kenya is Africa's oldest environmental society established in 1909 to promote the study and promotion of nature in Eastern Africa. VEK's partnership is with two of their projects, one based in the coastal region in Marafa and the second one is on the slopes of the Aberdare ranges. In Marafa, which is in Kilifi country, Vivo Energy Kenya, gives towards supporting community sensitization of conservation of the forest cover in that area. The communities are taught on other economic earning ventures away from charcoal burning. Vivo Energy Kenya does not only give money but involves its coastal based staff in tree planting sessions every June during the World environmental day at Marafa, where the company has steadily been increasing the forest cover since the inception of the programme in 2014. In 2015 during World Environment Day themed “Seven Billion Dreams. One planet. Consume with care” Vivo Energy Kenya had a team of 22 members of staff plant 50 trees at Maarafa Polytechnic grounds.
2016, World Environment Day themed "
zero tolerance for the illegal wildlife trade". Vivo Energy Kenya environment conservation activities got featured on UNEP World Environment Day website.
In this year 50 members of staff together with the locals planted over 500 tree seedlings. The local leaders urged the community to stop hunting and illegal charcoal burning activities.
After each tree planting session, the community and Vivo Energy Kenya staff play football match to seal the activities of the day.
