Vivo Energy Madagascar - HSSE
Vivo Energy’s vision is to become Africa’s most respected business. Our commitment to achieving and maintaining the highest international Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) standards is at the heart of our business and is a key differentiator for Vivo Energy Madagascar. Being the best in HSSE is not an objective that sits apart from our overall ambitions. It is an integral and essential part of our business plan.

Our focus is on five critical areas:
  • Goal Zero – no harm to people or the environment is our number one priority
  • Transport safety – we invest significantly in training, technology and the adoption of best practice to continually improve in this area.
  • Process safety – wherever we operate – service stations, terminals, LPG filling plants, tanks, shipping, aviation, customer sites – we place the highest emphasis on process safety.
  • Contractor safe management – we require contractors and partners to manage their HSSE policies and practices in line with ours.
  • Environmental impact – we actively monitor our environmental impact, act decisively to minimise the impact of any incidents and are transparent in our public reporting.

For Vivo Energy Madagascar, our HSSE commitment is more than just a statement. It is a way of thinking, acting and working, designed to earn the trust and respect of our employees and customers, our local community and the wider global audience.

At Vivo Energy Madagascar, safety is a collective responsibility, which is why we extend our training activities beyond our staff to include customers, suppliers, contractors, drivers and shippers.
Vivo Energy Madagascar is sensitive to the particular issues facing an island nation with the unique biodiversity of Madagascar.

Examples of the day-to-day implementation of our HSSE commitment include:

Working closely with local authorities and road transport bodies to significantly reduce road traffic accidents and collisions. To this end, we have introduced road safety training and awareness programmes for staff and contractors. We recognise and reward good driving.

Since mid-2005, Vivo Energy Madagascar has helped implement the Drivers’ League Scheme for transport contractor drivers. The scheme’s results are published on a quarterly basis, and the best drivers are awarded gifts and financial rewards based on their annual performance. At the annual ceremony, prizes are awarded and good driving is formally recognised and acknowledged.
