Vivo Energy Mali - Community Investment
Vivo Energy Mali wants to make a real and lasting difference to the communities in which we operate. Our community investment programmes matter to us because we employ local people and serve local businesses and individuals. We want to create lasting social and economic benefits for these communities and engage with them to earn their respect and trust.

We have chosen to focus on three key areas of community investment. These are road safety, education and the environment.

Road safety

Vivo Energy Mali continues to be at the forefront of Road Safety initiatives across the country. We are widely recognised as the country’s energy industry leaders when it comes to championing and setting standards for Road Safety – not only within our own sales and distribution operations but also at a national level. Many of our programmes are aimed at creating a cultural shift in perception and encouraging the adoption of safe behaviours among all road users: pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

One example of Vivo Energy Mali’s road safety initiatives is our partnership with the government’s Transport Ministry to create a national road safety campaign, which focused on reinforcing safety awareness among truck drivers and users of two-wheel vehicles. The company recently signed an agreement with ANASER, Mali’s National Agency for Road Transport (RT) Safety, which will see the two organisations roll out a nation-wide awareness campaign.
In addition to emphasising the importance of using helmets when driving a two-wheeler, the partnership involves entrenching defensive driving habits among the country’s bulk vehicle users. Representatives from trucking companies across the country attended ‘train-the trainer’ sessions at Vivo Energy Mali’s defensive driving centre, after which they passed on these safety messages to truck drivers across the country.

Education

As part of the overall campaign with ANASER, a Vivo Energy Mali a delegation visits schools, where they screen a special road safety video and conduct road safety quizzes, with helmets as prizes. Vivo Energy has been working with ANASER to produce 1000 road safety booklets, which are being distributed to learners at elementary schools.

The idea is to reach the hearts and minds of Mali’s youth with these messages, ensuring good safety awareness and behaviours become ingrained from a young age.
