Vivo Energy Mauritius prepares students for the workplace

Vivo Energy Mauritius invited 60 lower-sixth college students to Vivo Energy Youth Day, an event dedicated to workplace learning the 6th August 2014. This event enabled students that were about to graduate to get a first-hand experience of the work environment. The activity has been organised since 2013, in collaboration with the NGO Junior Achievement Mascareignes.

“It is our wish, through this project, to help ease the transition from school to work life, as teenagers often tend to get lost in the great unknown world of work”, explains Belinda Teeroovengadum, Communications Manager of Vivo Energy Mauritius. With road safety and the environment, education is one of the three key pillars of Vivo Energy’s community investment.

The leaders of NGO Junior Achievement Mascareignes and the employees of Vivo Energy Mauritius trained on daily life skills and helped them develop communications skills. The programme started with a team-building exercise encouraging teams to think through the same problem in different ways. The teams were then brought back together to produce a management scenario and present it to a jury. At the end of the day, the students gained a boost in confidence and motivation.

Vivo Energy Mauritius also supports Junior Achievement Mascareignes by providing personal development assistance to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. As of today, the company has helped train over 4,500 young people.
