Vivo Energy, the company that distributes and markets Shell branded fuels and lubricants in 16 African countries, held its annual Safety Day today to focus on Safety in their operations.  Vivo Energy employees and contractors reflected and focused on risks that they are exposed to on a daily basis, best practice from across the group and improvements that can be made to further strengthen Vivo Energy’s industry-leading safety performance. This is under the theme of “Safety is in our hands. Drive it at Home, At Work and On the Road”.

“Our commitment to Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) is fundamental, enduring and non-negotiable and is the starting point for everything that we do: in our operations and the communities in which we operate and with all our customers and suppliers” says Christian Chammas, CEO Vivo Energy.  “Our performance to date has been positive, with key metrics showing that we have met or exceeded our tough targets in vital areas.”

In 2013, Vivo Energy delivered industry leading safety performance across the 16 countries in which it operates in Africa with a TRCF ( total recordable case frequency) of 0.35 and an LTIF ( lost time injury frequency) of 0.25.

Vivo Energy Botswana held its safety day by going to its fuel transporter’s, Petrologistics, premises to interact with their staff and sharing the safety day message with them.  The company shared the best practices that were followed by Petrologistics to earn them the Vivo Energy Award 2013 for HSSE.

Vivo Energy Managing Director, Wayne Kingwill, stressed that a good Health, Safety, Security and Environment record, is an enabling table stake for our business, the foundation on which we build the rest of our business objective. The safety of Vivo Energy staff and business partners as including our customers is key to our success and is genuinely ‘in our hands’. Individually we need to take accountability for our actions and we can make a real difference.

Wherever Vivo Energy operates in Africa, even in the most challenging environments, the company’s goal is to lead by example and set a new benchmark for world-class HSSE policies and practices. Being the best in HSSE is not an objective that sits apart from Vivo Energy’s overall ambitions.  It is an integral and essential part of the business.
