The fifth edition of the annual Kampala City Festival has been boosted with support of fifty million shillings from Vivo Energy Uganda, the company that markets and distributes Shell-branded products.

The Kampala City Festival is a property of the Kampala City Council Authority aimed at celebrating the city and rallying up the population to revel in the city’s pleasures. This year’s festival, themed “A black, yellow, red affair”, focuses on celebrating the diverse culture of the Kampala population, promoting love for Kampala City and encouraging healthy and responsible living.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Jennifer Musisi revealed that the year the festival was introduced, it attracted 300,000 people. This number has since grown. Last year, the festival attracted 4 million people. KCCA hopes to attract 10 million people to attend this year.

This year activities have been arranged to give the festival longer visibility and touchpoints throughout the weekend. Vivo Energy has identified two activities to participate in - a rally circuit at Lubiri and Boda Boda road safety. The rally circuit and festival street exhibition will be an exciting activity which will be sponsored by Shell V-Power and Shell Helix.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, at Kampala Capital City Authority offices, Vivo Energy Managing Director Hans Paulsen said that the company is proud to join Kampala City Council Authority in the celebration of Kampala City and national pride: “At Vivo Energy, we are committed to becoming Africa’s most respected energy business. The first Shell service station in Uganda was opened in 1953 in Kampala. As we celebrate the Kampala City Festival 2016, we also celebrate the heritage of Shell in Uganda.”
