Vivo Energy Announces Reduction In Shell Gas Prices

Vivo Energy has announced a reduction in the Shell Gas prices, a move, intended to make cooking gas more affordable and improve the uptake of Shell Gas users in Uganda.

The Shell Gas 6kg cylinder, commonly known as Ka-Portable has been reduced from UGX 200,000 to UGX 180,000 which indicates a 10% discount. The company recently introduced a 12kg pack which goes for a refill price of UGX 110,000.

In 2016 Vivo Energy Uganda introduced a composite cylinder, Shell Gas Lite, a convenient cooking solution with visible gas levels to allow the customers track usage at all times. It is lighter in weight by 50% compared to the metallic cylinder and is made from rust-free material. The Shell Gas Lite cylinder has received a significant reduction of UGX. 113,000. Further to that Shell Gas customers who already possess a 12Kg metallic Shell Gas cylinder can now swap it for the Shell Gas Lite at only UGX. 50,000 before refill. The Shell Gas Lite cylinder is refilled at UGX. 110,000 only.

Shell Gas is currently the market leader in the cooking gas industry. It is readily available at all service stations and distributors, with over 160 distribution points across the country.

The Managing Director Vivo Energy, Gilbert Assi highlighted that “We have made Shell Gas Lite more affordable to allow our customers enjoy this innovative solution and to switch to the better cooking solution for those currently using charcoal and electricity. Shell Gas is a more environment friendly cooking method because it encourages reduction in deforestation.”

In several growing markets, Liquid Petroleum Gas is slowly replacing firewood or charcoal, either as part of a programme to prevent deforestation or to reduce illness and deaths due to contamination and fire accidents. Therefore, the reduction of Shell Gas prices directs its attention to the families, allowing them to cook safely.

In Uganda specifically, Gas is increasingly gaining dominance as a source of cooking energy taking over from charcoal because of its cost and inconvenience.
