Through its Shell Gas brand, Vivo Energy Uganda - the distributor of Shell fuels and lubricants in Uganda - with support from partners Coca Cola & DSTV, has renovated the kitchen and provided piped gas for a whole year to the Bless a Child Foundation, a non-profit organisation that is committed to providing treatment and care for children living with cancer in Uganda.

The home provides shelter, food, education and care for the children while they receive their cancer treatment at various treatment centres.

Bless a Child Foundation was identified as the Tokosa Food Festival beneficiary partner in 2016 and was provided with piped gas for the entire year. In 2017, Bless a Child received extended support from Tokosa, with 10% of the event proceeds channelled towards renovation of the kitchen at their home in Makerere Kikoni.

In addition to the kitchen renovation and piped gas for a year, Vivo Energy, Coca Cola & DSTV staff also donated other items, including clothing, food and books, to the children.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Vivo Energy MD Gilbert Assi said that Vivo Energy believes that the Foundation is a worthy cause, whose day to day activities of nurturing the children will be enhanced with the Shell Gas cooking experience: “The essence of the Shell Gas brand is all about igniting love every day. This resonates with our responsibility as members of the community to contribute towards initiatives like these to make life better for others. We therefore pledge to continue supporting Bless a Child Foundation in the future. We are honoured to bring the good times to the Bless a Child Foundation home.” said Mr. Assi.

Also speaking at the event, the Coca Cola Franchise Brand Manager, Rodney Nzioka noted: “After working together on a successful 2017 Tokosa Food Festival, we are honoured to be part of this event at Bless a Child Foundation with Vivo Energy & the other sponsors. We continue to look forward to a fruitful partnership with Vivo Energy into 2018.”

Tina Wamala from PRO DSTV also noted that they are proud to have been affiliated with the Shell Tokosa event this year and more so the corporate social investment that the proceeds have gone towards: “It is humbling for us to be associated with this good cause and contribute to the welfare of young, vulnerable children in our society. We are committed to partnerships such as these with that will be impactful to children who are our future leaders.” noted Ms. Wamala.

The children and staff of the foundation expressed extreme gratitude to Vivo Energy, DSTV & Coca Cola staff for this kind gesture.

Brian Walusimbi, Executive Director, of the Bless a Child Foundation said: “Vivo Energy has not only brought on board other partners for our home, but has donated cash, home items and ensured all our Shell Gas needs are well catered for. This is received with utmost gratitude and will go a long way to improve life here at the home. We are immensely thankful.
