Vivo Energy Uganda, the distributor and marketer of Shell branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda, has today recognised 389 high performing truck drivers and 4 transporters at the annual award ceremony, held at the Protea Hotel Kampala, under the theme: “My Best for Goal Zero.”
The Drivers’ League was formed in 2002 with the objective of inspiring drivers to better road safety behaviour and compliance. The league measures drivers’ performance on a day to day basis and culminates in an annual award ceremony at the start of every year, held by Vivo Energy Uganda.
The company monitors drivers’ performance using On Board Computers (OBC) and in-cab cameras installed in every truck to allow for monitoring every journey in real time. This year’s overall winner, Lubega Fahad Muzafaru from Fred Sebyala Transporters Limited, was recognized for driving safely without violating any driving requirement set throughout 2018, on time product deliveries and had the highest score in the drivers’ league. He exhibited good behaviour and professionalism, maintaining a zero incident record.
This year a new twist was added to the awards: transporters’ recognition. This seeks to recognize the achievements of the transporter companies whose services Vivo Energy Uganda employs. The overall Best Transporter for 2018 went to SIBED Transport Company Limited. Several other awards were presented to high-performing drivers and hauliers.
Commenting on the programme, Mr. Gilbert Assi, Managing Director, Vivo Energy Uganda said: “At Vivo Energy we take Road Safety incredibly seriously. In addition to the successful public Tweddeko campaign, our Drivers’ League awards programme seeks to ensure that our drivers observe high professional conduct on the road and operate the highest road safety standards, while delivering our products. It is aimed at motivating high performing drivers and inspiring other drivers within and outside our business. Our ‘Goal Zero’ aim means zero harm to people, assets and the environment in all our operations. This award ceremony is an opportunity to recognise and motivate our drivers’ commitment to health and safety on the road. They have become a role model even to other road users. The theme ‘My Best for Goal Zero’ seeks to remind drivers to continue to putting their best foot forward and make Goal Zero a personal goal.”
“In 2018, our four efficient transporters made it possible to transport Shell petroleum products with 405 trucks, over a distance of 15 million kilometres and a cumulative Goal Zero achievement, without a single incident.” said Mr Assi.
The drivers’ performance is scored on a monthly basis, with quarterly awards that culminate in an annual recognition. The drivers are categorised in classes A, B and C, depending on how they perform.
The other three drivers awarded were Ali Kintu from Multiple Hauliers, Hajimara Rajab Shaban from Sibed Transporters and Kizza Mohammed from Uganda Transport Agencies. A total of 389 drivers were also recognised for great performance and achieving the Class A category and these all walked away with amazing prizes. The drivers showed outstanding professionalism as they delivered Shell fuels and products, covering a total distance of 15 million kilometres in 2018.
