Maiden delivery of fuel via rail to Vivo Energy Kenya Nanyuki depot

Vivo Energy Kenya, the company that distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in the country, rolled out a children's homes campaign dubbed “A Helping Hand.” The campaign kicked off in July 2020 and ended in September 2020. #PamojaMilele and #VEKCares were the hashtags used to represent the campaign on social media platforms. In total, the A Helping Hand campaign was able to support 20 homes located in 9 counties for 90days.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges to many in society as well as children's homes. These homes depend on donor funding and regular visitors who frequent them. The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the number of visitors, affecting the funds that the homes entirely depend on.

Through the A helping hand campaign, we were able to reach 1,638 children in 20 homes across 9 counties in 90 days. Support in the form of toiletries and non-perishable foods was able to assist the children's home to push through this difficult time.

The selection of the homes was by our staff members in the 6 counties where our offices are situated. Each month Vivo Energy Kenya would visit six homes across the counties. During the visits, our team would briefly interact with the children and also encourage them.

The counties visited were nine: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Laikipia, and Kajiado. Other staff members were also able to contribute financially to the cause. The money donated by staff members enables us to visit one more home: New Life Home Trust which has 48 children and cares for vulnerable children.

On our social media pages, the campaign received positive feedback. Our influencers also helped drive the campaign through their social media pages. Through the campaign, we were able to touch the lives of many and help them get through the tough times that the pandemic brought about.
