The Retail Manager then invited Senior Chief Liwonde who in his speech emphasized that “Madzi ndi moyo” (water is life) and the donation of two boreholes in the community will ease the burden of women and children walking long miles in search of portable water.
The MC then invited the Managing Director of VE Malawi, Jean-Michel Arlandis, who, during his speech stated “Vivo Energy recognises the value we get from the people of Ntaja and surrounding areas and when a need arose, we took it as an opportunity for us to give back to the people of Ntaja. A few months ago, we were approached by the people of Ntaja regarding the challenges they were facing to access portable water and considering the support we enjoy from this community, we decided to step in and help by sinking two boreholes and installing pumps.”
To close off the event all guests walked to one of the boreholes to witness the symbolic handover ceremony, presided over by the MD for VE Malawi.
At the borehole, the villagers from the community danced and sang songs of praise as The MD unlocked the borehole and pumped water while the Senior Chief Liwonde tastes it.
