Vivo Energy Uganda marks its tenth anniversary
Vivo Energy Uganda, the marketer and distributor of Shell branded fuels and lubricants, has today marked the first decade of its operations in Uganda. The company is a part of the Vivo Energy Group and is the Shell licensee in Africa.
In its first decade, the Vivo Energy Uganda story has been one of growth, significantly increasing the size of its retail network from 105 Shell service stations in 2013 to over 170 this year. Other highlights include the creation of a non-fuel retail offer, growth of the lubricants business, development of the commercial offer, garnering four ISO certifications, providing direct and indirect employment to Ugandans and investing in impactful community initiatives in promotion of road safety, education and the environment.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Johan Grobbelaar, the Managing Director for Vivo Energy Uganda, said: “Today marks a special day in the history of Vivo Energy, and I am very proud of the immense achievements that we have achieved during our first 10 years. These include our continuous pursuit of our Goal Zero ambition to bring no harm to our people, assets and the environment, our sustained growth in retail, our continued focus on our customers, quality fuels, sustainability and innovation, and a determination to always do business the right way.”

In remarks delivered by Hon. Peter Lokeris, the state minister for minerals, on behalf of the Guest of Honour, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, he said: “As the Shell licensee, we congratulate Vivo Energy Uganda for achieving this significant milestone in its operations. The iconic Shell brand has been a significant part of our heritage, having launched operations in the country in 1953, and we are extremely pleased that Vivo Energy has upheld its renowned characteristics such as quality of fuels, customer focus and innovation in the delivery of its services to Uganda over the last decade.”
He added, “We celebrate you today as a significant partner in the downstream sector and take note of the multiple milestones that you have registered over the ten year period. Congratulations upon achieving this milestone for your company and the industry at large.”
