Our business model
Our resilient and integrated model, together with our strong operating culture of focus, speak up, simplify and perform, drives competitive advantages in our markets and supports our vision to be Africa's leading and most respected energy business.
We supply our operations through diverse providers, ranging from oil traders and government refineries to lubricant blending plants, ensuring cost effective security of supply.
The size of our footprint and relationships with suppliers enables us to source fuels at highly competitive prices.

On a continent where storage is scarce, we can store more than two billion litres of fuels, at either owned or shared facilities.
Infrastructure provides major barrier to entry to others, and growing volumes drive efficiencies.

We distribute products using strong partnerships with trusted local transport companies, as well as pipelines and rail where possible.
Our model provides operational control over road transport, enabling us to implement our exacting HSSEQ standards and controls.

We supply high-quality fuels, lubricants, food and convenience retail offerings at a network of over 3,900 Shell and Engen‑branded service stations. The majority of sites are owned by us, but operated by local dealers, reducing risk and utilising local knowledge.
Our leading brands and strong customer offering drive our industry-leading average throughput per site.

We supply thousands of commercial customers with fuels and lubricants across the transport, infrastructure, mining, aviation and marine sectors. In addition we supply LPG to consumers and commercial customers.
We supply a diversified mix of businesses across long‑term contracts, tender business and spot sales, with a proven proposition to add value to customers beyond supply.
