Vivo Energy Tanzania Launches ‘Shell Tumerudi Kivingine’ Campaign, Empowering Every Drive and Unveiling the Power of Originals for Efficiency
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 7 October 2024 – Vivo Energy Tanzania, the company responsible for marketing and distributing Shell-branded lubricants and Engen fuels, today announced the launch of its highly anticipated ‘Shell Tumerudi Kivingine’ campaign. This campaign aims to reintroduce Shell lubricants to the Tanzanian market with the goal of maximizing brand visibility, increasing sales, and reinforcing Shell’s position as the global leader in lubricant technology.
Speaking at the launch, Mohamed Bougriba, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Tanzania, emphasized the significance of the campaign, stating, ‘We are excited to reintroduce Shell lubricants to Tanzanians in a way that reflects the global brand's quality, reliability, and innovation. As the world’s leading lubricant supplier, trusted by millions across over 100 countries, Shell delivers market-leading products that are designed to meet the diverse needs of our customers. With this campaign, ‘Shell Tumerudi Kivingine,’ we are positioning our products across all Engen service stations in the country, ensuring that Tanzanians have access to the best lubricant technology available in the world.’
Bougriba further elaborated on the advanced technology behind Shell lubricants, noting, ‘Shell lubricants leverage cutting-edge technology, providing advanced engine protection, improved fuel efficiency, and lower maintenance costs. This helps businesses and consumers alike to extend the life of their vehicles and equipment while reducing overall operating costs. ‘This is the trusted brand for Tanzania since 1961 for hence the name refer to any petrol station with the name ‘Sheli’ in Swahili, in which the original is Shell.
In her remarks, Aileen Meena, Marketing and Communications Manager at Vivo Energy Tanzania, highlighted the importance of the Tanzanian market, saying, ‘The demand for high-quality lubricants has never been more critical. Recognizing this opportunity, we are launching the ‘Shell Tumerudi Kivingine’ campaign to ensure all Tanzanians—from large industries to individual, motorists, car owners—are aware of the advanced benefits of Shell lubricants. Over the next three months, from October to December, we aim to drive visibility and sales of Shell lubricants, positioning the brand as the go-to solution for all lubricant needs.’
Meena added, ‘This campaign is about empowering Tanzanians to transform their daily operations with high-performance products and sustainable, strong partnerships that can drive progress for years to come.’
Speaking on behalf of the government, Albert Chalamila, Regional Commissioner for Dar es Salaam, at VIVO Energy Headquarters underscored the alignment of this initiative with the government’s Vision 2025 development goals, stating, ‘The Tanzanian government is committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, especially in sectors that are critical to our nation’s industrial growth and economic development. Shell’s reintroduction of their high-quality lubricants into our market is a great step forward in contributing to our 2025 vision for sustainable economic growth. This campaign will not only create jobs and drive business but will also help reduce vehicle emissions, contributing to a cleaner, healthier Tanzania.’
At the grand opening of the new Engen Retail Station in Mbezi Beach, the District Commissioner for Kinondoni, Saad Mtambule, speaking on behalf of the Regional Commissioner for Dar-es-Salaam, reiterated the importance of attracting more investors to Tanzania. He highlighted the country's favorable investment environment and the government's support for such initiatives. In addition, the Commissioner emphasized the critical role of road safety, urging the public to use only original Shell lubricants, now available at all Engen stations nationwide. He noted that using authentic lubricants not only enhances vehicle performance but also significantly reduces the risk of road accidents, ensuring safer and more reliable transportation. This message aligns with Tanzania’s broader commitment to sustainable development and public safety initiatives.

The campaign will also feature the activation of the slogan ‘Kata Kilomita,’ which aims to remind drivers and businesses that with Shell lubricants, they can cover greater distances more efficiently, thus reducing downtime and ensuring smoother operations.
