How we’ve been driving breast cancer awareness – Pink October 2025

In a modern service station, a group of Tunisian women smile and pose for a selfie.

We’ve been supporting our communities in the fight against breast cancer through the Group-wide campaign, “Fuel Her Fight”.

Activities have been running throughout the month, with teams from across our 28 African markets hosting charity races, informative talks, screening sessions, and more.

Why is Vivo Energy marking breast cancer awareness month?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, impacting around 2.3 million women across the world, every single year (World Health Organisation (WHO)). Breast examination and early detection are key to reducing the impact of the disease.

But practices are low in Sub-Saharan Africa – where much of our community is based – which means more people are diagnosed when their cancer has reached a later stage.Sadly, the five-year breast cancer survival rate in South Africa for example is 40% - less than half that of the USA (WHO).

How have we at Vivo Energy been playing a part?

We recognise the opportunity we have to use our service stations and offices to empower our communities: sharing trusted resources, creating a space for community, and even hosting partnerships with local organisations and healthcare providers.

Teams from each country have hosted their own schedule of events and activations. Below is just a small flavour of what we’ve been up to – make sure to follow us on social media to stay updated!

Sponsored runs

Vivo Energy Botswana joined hundreds of runners and supporters at the Pink October Run held in Gaborone, Botswana. Participating as a sponsor and corporate team, Vivo Energy Botswana helped to raise funds and promote ongoing breast cancer education and support programmes.

Free screenings

Vivo Energy Uganda hosted a medical camp at the country HQ, in partnership with medical insurance provider Old Mutual. Colleagues and the wider community enjoyed free breast cancer screenings, blood pressure checks, and general wellness consultations.

One member of our community said: “I’ve always been hesitant about going for a checkup, but having the service brought to us in such a friendly and reassuring setting made all the difference. I now feel empowered to take charge of my health and encourage others to do the same.”

Expert panels and inspiring speakers

Many of our teams hosted a themed “Town Hall” – an internal event for Vivo Energy employees designed to raise awareness among our teams. Including expert panel discussions and moving personal stories, the events were aimed at sparking discussions and empowering our colleagues with useful resources for early detection.

Vivo Energy Maroc have taken to Instagram to share a taste of their event. Watch the video (in Arabic) here.
