Vivo Energy North Vs South Inaugural Golf Tournament

Lusaka, Zambia – 20th October 2024 – As Zambia gears up to celebrate 60 years of Independence, Vivo Energy Zambia has joined in the celebrations by reviving the once popular North Vs South Golf Tournament last held in 1996.

The Tournament, organised by the Zambia Golf Union and hosted by Vivo Energy Zambia on the 19th and 20th of October 2024 at the Lusaka Golf Club features 20 of the best golfers from the North and 20 of the best golfers from the South regions who face off in the better ball tournament.

There has been a surge of activities and excitement amongst golfers at Lusaka Golf Club in anticipation of the return of the tournament. The players selected to represent the two respective regions took time on their courses preparing for the eventual showdown.

After teeing off the field of 160 golfers on Saturday 19th October 2024, Mr. Edward Walugembe, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Zambia, said he was content to see the tournament revived after so many years: “At Vivo Energy, we are humbled to host this inaugural tournament. We would like to see the game of golf lifted to a higher level in Zambia and are keen to see the tournament grow bigger and better in the years to come.” he said.

The Zambia Golf Union General Secretary equally expressed immense joy at the return of this tournament which is anticipated to be an annual feature with the tournament alternating between the North and South Regions of Zambia every successive year.

“As Zambia golf union (ZGU), we welcome this inaugural tournament as a perfectly timed celebration of the Country’s 60th birthday as well as a great opportunity for networking, building and creating new partnerships within the golfing fraternity.” said the ZGU General Secretary, Mr. Edward Phiri.

Mr. Musamba Kapoma, one of the participants at the Tournament and winner of the Lusaka Open held just before this tournament said he was enjoying good form and looking forward to winning the inaugural Vivo Energy Golf Challenge. He said he was ready to take on any opponents and such is the spirit of the players at the tournament.

The Northern region emerged as the overall winners of the tournament with the top two individual winners being  Kelvin Chilufya, who secured second place, winning a full car service and a full tank of fuel and Wellington Wemba winning  himself an international trip to another Vivo Energy golf day, it being the grand prize.
