Kigali - May 10, 2024 – Vivo Energy Rwanda is proud to announce that it has been honoured with the prestigious Gold Gender Seal, recognising our unwavering dedication to equality. This recognition underscores our gratitude to the Gender Monitoring Office for acknowledging our efforts.

The Gender Monitoring Office (GMO) recently held a certification event for the Gender Equality Seal (GES), aimed at spotlighting the pivotal role of the private sector in advancing gender equality. The event sought to inspire more companies to prioritise gender-responsive policies and initiatives.

According to GMO, the Gold Gender Seal is bestowed upon organisations that exhibit a strong commitment to gender equality through their policies, practices, and organisational culture. The Gender Equality Seal Programme, initiated in 2017 in collaboration with the Private Sector Federation, UNDP, UN WOMEN, and USAID, aims to commend organisations, both public and private, for their strides in promoting gender equality. This programme serves as a catalyst for creating equitable working conditions for all.

Gender equality is not just a fundamental human right, it is also imperative for achieving effective and sustainable development outcomes. USAID Rwanda, in alignment with its commitment to advancing gender equality, extends its support to the Gender Equality Seal certification framework. This support is particularly directed towards small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specializing in agri-business, production, and exports.

Keisha Effiom, Deputy Mission Director for USAID Rwanda, emphasised the significance of this initiative, stating: "For the first time anywhere in the world, thanks to the support from the American people, this initiative is intentionally targeting the SME sector."
