The Road to Football Cup: Putting partnerships into action in Mauritius

Four young boys celebrating after scoring the winning goal

As part of Vivo Energy’s commitment to creating a positive impact in the communities where we operate, Vivo Energy Mauritius proudly supported the Road to Football Cup 2026 as the official sponsor.

The initiative brought together young footballers from across the country, using the power of sport to promote teamwork, personal development, inclusion and healthy lifestyles.

Building confidence through football

The tournament officially kicked off on 11 June, bringing together an impressive 720 young players under the age of 13 from 48 football clubs across Mauritius.

Supported by their coaches and families, the young players had the opportunity to compete in a structured national tournament, showcase their talent, build confidence and experience the excitement of a major football competition.

“Seeing these young players develop a passion for football and show such commitment on the pitch is encouraging for the future of Mauritian sport. We must now further decentralise initiatives of this nature, reach communities in more remote regions and give more children the opportunity to participate and showcase their potential. We believe in these young people, in their talent and in what they represent for the future of sport in Mauritius,” said Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Youth and Sports.

Through sport, the tournament encouraged values such as discipline, respect, teamwork, perseverance and fair play – values that can help shape young people both on and off the field.

Our colleagues supported from the sidelines

The initiative also brought the Vivo Energy Mauritius family together, with employees and their families attending the matches and showing their support for the young players. Their presence added to the excitement around the tournament and created an opportunity for colleagues and their families to connect and share memorable experiences beyond the workplace.

Congratulations to our first champions!

The competition culminated in an exciting final on 18 July at the Côte d’Or Sports Complex, Mauritius, with École de Foot Sainte-Croix, representing Ecuador, crowned the winners of the inaugural edition. École de Foot Casernes, representing Japan, finished as runners-up, while École de Foot Rivière Noire, representing Cape Verde, secured third place.

Fostering lasting partnerships

The initiative was an opportunity to put our sustainability commitments into action by supporting young people and contributing to the development of stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities. This commitment builds on the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to the effect with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Club Maurice, which took place on 4 June.

The Road to Football Cup began during Vivo Energy’s first Sustainability Week. The campaign offered an opportunity to renew our commitments and launch initiatives aimed at creating a more sustainable future for our people, our communities and the environment - all under the theme “Kicking off for sustainability”.
