Supporting inclusive sport in Ghana
As part of our Sustainability Week, under the theme “Kicking off for sustainability”, we are sharing some of the sports-based partnerships supporting environmental and social initiatives in our local communities.
In Ghana, our local colleagues came together to support the Ghana National Amputee Football Association, ahead of the national team’s participation on the global stage later this year.
Recognising a symbol of national pride
In the lead-up to Sustainability Week, our colleagues in Ghana raised GHS 10,000 to support the national amputee football team, with the goal of supporting the development of football for people with disabilities in Ghana. Vivo Energy Ghana matched that amount, bringing the total donation to GHS 20,000.
The Ghana National Amputee Football Team – known as the “Black Challenge” – have made a name for themselves through their dedication, achievements, and strong contribution to disability sports. The support comes at an opportune moment, as the players prepare to represent Ghana at the WAFF Amputee Football World Cup in November 2026, in Mexico.

Coming together as one team
Our colleagues joined the team at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana’s capital city, to spend time with the players, hear their stories first-hand, and present the donation. It was a chance to connect, to listen, and to recognise the role the team plays in Ghana’s sporting community.
This support is part of our local-led approach to social initiatives, where our markets our encouraged to support the organisations and initiatives that matter most in their own communities.
Kicking off for sustainability
This initiative is one example of how, across our markets, we are using sport as a platform to drive positive change – from supporting education, to strengthening communities, and promoting social inclusion.
From 1-7 June, we’ll be sharing more stories like this from across our network. Follow along to see how we’re working with partners to create meaningful impact.
