Green Champion Initiatives - A year later

It’s been a year since we launched Green Champions – an initiative developed and implemented by colleagues to create and carry sustainable ventures within each of the 23 operating units. In the last 12 months, 51 projects ranging from waster recycling, to electricity consumption reduction, to optimised water use were carried out across our countries in Africa.

As part of the Vivo Energy Sustainability Framework, we have People, Planet and Partnership pillars.  Our Planet pillar focuses on four priorities, to: limit greenhouse gas emissions produced by us, minimise our product spills on the environment, develop clean energy solutions and improve water use. These goals are aligned with the United Nations’ objectives for the planet to provide clean and affordable energy for all.

We went out into the field to meet with Green Champions in Ghana, Reunion and Tunisia to take a closer look at some of their initiatives

Ghana – Cash from Trash

Vivo Energy Ghana partnered with the United Way to deliver a “Cash from Trash” campaign to educate on the importance of protecting the planet through waste segregation and revenue creation. The school children and members of the environmental club discussed how they could recycle waste into valuable resources on a local and global basis, to create a sustainable future for generations to come.

Reunion – Servicing electrical vehicles

Vivo Energy Réunion expanded its network to better serve electric vehicle drivers. A new smart charging station was installed at Engen Etang-Salé service station, which has a charging capacity of 100kW, allowing the fast and simultaneous recharge of two vehicles – an extremely useful alternative energy for Réunion residents.

Tunisia – Change 4 Climate Change

Vivo Energy Tunisia’s “Change 4 Climate Change” campaign aimed at raising awareness to staff on behavioural changes that can be implemented to reduce electricity usage in operational areas. The campaign focused on the use of led lights, switching off unused appliances as well behavioural changes around aircon usage.
