Green Triumph: Bambata High School Claims Victory in Third 'My Green School' Challenge
We’re excited to share that the Bambata municipal high school just won the third edition of the "My green school" competition on 23 May 2023, in Ouagadougou.
Now, what's "My green school"? Well, it's this fantastic initiative brought to life in 2018 by Vivo Energy Burkina. Its mission? To spread the green vibes and eco-citizen culture in schools. Five schools went head-to-head in this eco-battle: Saint Viateur, Bambata municipal, Nelson Mandela, Gounghin mixed, and Paspanga municipal high schools.
Guess who took the crown? It was the Bambata municipal high school, scoring a cool 89 out of 100 points! Each school had around ten minutes to dazzle the judges with their project to protect the environment. The project could be done right at the school, with students and teachers joining forces.
Bambata municipal high school rocked the stage as the second act. They put on a sketch that zoomed in on hygiene issues at their school. The school's headmaster, Soumahila Siemdé, said, "We have to make sure that every year, the project is designed so that all the pupils can ensure that our living environment is really pleasant."
Léontine Yougbaré, a technical adviser to the Minister of Education, pointed out that changing eco-habits is sometimes a tougher nut to crack for adults. That's why focusing on the younger generation is the way to go. She hopes that these young people become eco-ambassadors to preserve the environment for generations to come.
So, hats off to Bambata municipal high school and the "My green school" competition for inspiring the future eco-champions of Burkina Faso!
