Vivo Energy Zambia launches the Vivo Energy Zambia Bursary for five vulnerable Boys at St Lawrence Home of Hope as they commemorate the Day of the African Child.

LUSAKA, Zambia – June 16, 2024, Vivo Energy Zambia marked the Day of the African Child with a Lauch of a five-year Vivo Energy Zambia Bursary to five Vulnerable boys of St Lawrence Home of Hope in Lusaka. 

The Home of Hope Foundation, which has been serving vulnerable children in Zambia for over 27years and is supported by St Lawrence school has over 100 children of all ages that either transit or depend on the facility for their well-being.

Vivo Energy Zambia, whose CSR mandate also focusses on Education as a key pillar, in commemorating the Day of the African Child made a pledge to support five best performing G7 pupils from the school as well as the foundation all through their secondary grades. This was done to provide equal opportunities to these boys for a better future ahead. 

The Country Managing Director, Mr. Edwards Walugembe, in his speech said, "While the government has opened the doors to education, we want to ensure that children like those here today have the support they need to walk through those doors with confidence and dignity." 

Mr Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President East, he stated in a speech that education is not only a CSR pillar, but also the foundation upon which Vivo Energy builds sustainable change in African communities: "From Kenya to Morocco, from Ghana to here in Zambia, Vivo Energy has consistently invested in educational initiatives because we understand a fundamental truth that education is the most powerful tool for transforming lives and breaking the cycle of poverty." he said. 

Alongside the Vivo Energy Zambia Bursary, Vivo Energy Zambia donated various essential items such as footwear, blankets, and toiletries. 

Pearson Phiri, one of the children at the orphanage, delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of all the children, saying "To Vivo Energy Zambia, thank you for being such an amazing supporter! Your kindness, donations, and time to help provide us with the tools to not only survive but to thrive, you have given us hope, and through your actions, you have showed us the true meaning of community." 

The Day of the African Child, observed annually on June 16th, serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to protect and invest in Africa's children. This year's donation aligns with Vivo Energy Zambia's broader strategy of creating meaningful partnerships with established community organisations. The initiative is part of Vivo Energy Zambia's comprehensive corporate social responsibility portfolio, which focuses on education, community development, and child welfare programs across the country.
