Vivo Energy Uganda unveils a new era of convenience retail at Shell Ambercourt in Jinja
Jinja, Uganda - Thursday 8 October 2026: Vivo Energy Uganda, the company that distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda, today unveiled the redeveloped Shell Amber Court service station, bringing together fuelling, dining, retail, connectivity and everyday services in one modern destination.
Located in the heart of Jinja, Shell Amber Court has been significantly redeveloped to serve the needs of people who live and work in the city, as well as the many travellers passing through one of Uganda’s most important commercial and tourism centres.
Customers can now refuel at a larger forecourt, take a break and dine at Java House or KFC Uganda, access telecom services at the new MTN Uganda service centre, visit the Good Life pharmacy for medication, access financial services and exchange currencies at Norfrax Forex Bureau or access banking services through the Stanbic Bank ATM, all at the same location.
For customers stopping for a meal or coffee, the Java House space has doubled, providing a larger dining area as well as recreational space and a play area for children and adults.
The redevelopment has also significantly increased the station’s capacity. The forecourt has expanded from four fuelling points to eight, while the Shell Select Shop now has additional space for a wider selection of goods and an improved shopping experience for customers.
The station’s fuel storage capacity for its Shell V-Power and Shell FuelSave Petrol and Diesel has been increased, while its specialised vehicle service bay has an additional lane to accommodate service for additional cars. A dedicated area for boda boda customers has also been introduced.
Overall, the redevelopment has made better use of the site, increasing land utilisation from approximately 65 to over 90 per cent, while incorporating the latest Shell visual identity.
The unveiling of Shell Amber Court is part of Vivo Energy’s broader investment in its retail network across Africa, as the Group continues to respond to changing mobility patterns, growing cities and increasingly diverse customer needs.
Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President East of Vivo Energy Group, and chief guest at the event said the investment reflects the Group’s broader ambition to grow its business by staying close to customers and the markets where it operates.
“Across Vivo Energy, we are seeing cities grow, economies develop and the way people move and spend their time change. Our business has to keep pace with those transformations. Our investment in sites such as Amber Court is therefore about more than adding another place to buy fuel. It is about building a network that is closer to our customers and more relevant to their everyday lives, whether they are driving to work, travelling across the country, meeting friends, taking a break or running a business.”
He added, “Uganda is an important market for Vivo Energy, and Jinja is an important city within Uganda. We see considerable opportunity in both, and we will continue to invest in our people, our network and our customer proposition as we grow the business across the markets in which we operate.”
For Vivo Energy Uganda, the redevelopment is also about understanding what customers need beyond the forecourt.
Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, said Shell Amber Court reflects the company’s ambition to make Shell locations more useful and convenient parts of customers’ everyday journeys.
“When our customers visit our Shell service stations, they may simply want to refuel and leave. But sometimes they need a coffee, a meal, to pick up something from the shop, access a financial service, service their vehicle or simply take a break before continuing their journey,” she said.
Adding, “Amber Court brings many of those needs together in one place. We have increased the number of fuelling positions, expanded our retail and vehicle service facilities, and brought in new partners, giving our customers more reasons to stop and making every visit more valuable. For us, this is what good retail is about: understanding our customers, listening to what they need and continually improving the experience we give them.”
The investment comes at a time when Jinja continues to strengthen its position as a centre for business, tourism, industry and mobility.
Shell Amber Court is part of Vivo Energy Uganda’s continued investment in expanding and modernising its Shell retail network, with additional Shell service stations being opened in locations across the country. The investment is aimed at bringing Shell products and services closer to more customers while creating modern destinations that reflect the changing needs of Ugandans and the communities in which the company operates.
With its expanded forecourt, larger retail and dining spaces, enhanced vehicle service facilities and wider range of on-site partners, Shell Amber Court represents a significant step forward in the evolution of the Shell customer experience in Jinja.
